Garden of Peace Project (GPP) is a black. native. trans. queer-led art + collective healing project based in Pittsburgh, PA. They exist to celebrate the narratives and lived experiences of queer and trans people of color. They actively reclaim spaces as sanctuaries for queer and trans folks of color and work to undo systems of oppression. They offer community programs, tools, and resources to radically shift the disproportionate impact of state-sanctioned violence. This organization is supported through the Funding Queerly Giving Circle, which is housed at Astraea.

Diversidad Dominicana works to promote the recognition, acceptance and respect of LGBTI persons in the legal, political, social and cultural spheres in the Dominican Republic. Its goal is to contribute to the construction of a democratic society that is inclusive, tolerant, and socially just. The group began because there was a need for a space where women could report discrimination based on their sexual orientation.

Su meta es contribuir a la construcción de una sociedad democrática que sea inclusiva, tolerante y socialmente justa. COTRAVETD promotes the social inclusion of transgender sex workers through advocacy, outreach strategies, campaigns to reduce stigma and discrimination, direct health services and programs for the empowerment of sex workers.

COTRAVETD was founded to bring visibility and respond to the human rights violations suffered by sex workers in the Dominican Republic, due to the total lack of visibility, services and justice suffered by this community. COTRAVETD promotes the social inclusion of transgender sex workers through advocacy, outreach strategies, campaigns to reduce stigma and discrimination, direct health services and programs for the empowerment of sex workers with the purpose of knowing and advocating for their rights. *** En Español*** COTRAVETD se fundó para traer visibilidad y responder a las violaciones de los derechos humanos de las que son víctimas las trabajadoras sexuales en la República Dominicana, debido a la falta total de visibilidad, servicios y justicia que sufre esta comunidad. COTRAVETD promueve la inclusión social de las trabajadoras sexuales migrates trans a través de defensoría, estrategias de visibilización, campañas para reducir el estigma y la discriminación, servicios directos de salud y programas para el empoderamiento de las trabajadoras sexuales con el propósito de que conozcan y aboguen por sus derechos.

Articulación Feminista Dominicana (formerly Colectiva Mujer y Salud) is one of the oldest feminist organizations in Latin America that advocates for sexual and reproductive rights. The current leadership of the organization consists of women of different generations who identify themselves as lesbians. Its mission is to promote the holistic health of women, including LBT women, as well as advancing the human rights of women. It has a feminist strategy and works for the eradication of racism, self-determination and empowerment of women, the political participation of women in all their diversity and throughout their lives and the full exercise of their sexuality.

La Articulación Feminista Dominicana es una de las organizaciones feministas más antiguas en América Latina que aboga por los derechos sexuales y reproductivos. El liderazgo actual de la organización se compone de mujeres de diferentes generaciones que se identifican como lesbianas. Su misión es promover la salud holística de las mujeres, incluyendo las mujeres LBT, así como avanzar los derechos humanos de las mujeres. The Youth Organizing Institute is a popular education leadership development program that is committed to training lifelong organizers.

The Youth Organizing Institute is a popular education leadership development program that is committed to training lifelong organizers. They support organizing and actions that address systems of oppression, and work to develop solutions that challenge existing power relationships. Their work is grounded in an understanding of and commitment to dismantling the systems that prohibit working class people and youth from fully participating in a democratic society. Through their summer education curriculum, campaign/coalition work, and mentorship program, YOI strives to cultivate peer education and movement building. Through their programs, participants learn to step into leadership roles as organizers and facilitators in their their communities. YOI teaches organizing skills, foster coalition-building, facilitate campaign planning and organizational development, and encourage multi-generational models of social change. In 2013, YOI  co-founded the NC Queer Youth Power Coalition, which is now known for their annual event “Queernival: A Southern Celebration of Queer Youth Liberation.”

Somos Familia

Somos Familia’s mission is to build intergenerational leadership to create environments where Latina/o/x lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their families are supported, nurtured, and celebrated.

Somos Familia’s mission is to build intergenerational leadership to create environments where Latina/o/x lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer or questioning (LGBTQ) youth and their families are supported, nurtured, and celebrated. Somos Familia conducts its work in a Latina/o/x cultural context. The majority of members are bilingual and bicultural. Somos Familia provides peer support and education programs led by families with LGBTQ children. They facilitate workshops on acceptance, gender and sexual orientation terminology, and being an ally for childcare providers, community-based organizations, school staff, and parents. Somos Familia has made it possible for families to discuss their sexual orientation or gender identity within their home and this has brought their families closer together. Parents say that hearing from Somos Familia members made them feel more comfortable about having a LGBTQ child. One mother of a transgender teen said: “At each Somos Familia event I attend, I learn something new about how to support my child.” This organization is supported through the Funding Queerly Giving Circle, which is housed at Astraea.

Women’s Health and Equal Rights Initiative (WHER)

WHER Initiative is a Nigerian feminist organization that brings together lesbian, bisexual and other sexual minority women from all over the country to collectively take action to advance and promote their rights and wellbeing.

WHER Initiative is a Nigerian feminist organization that brings together lesbian, bisexual and other sexual minority women from all over the country to collectively take action to advance and promote their rights and wellbeing. Their programs provide psychosocial support, economic empowerment and leadership development, and also focus outwards to build alliances with the women’s movement and other civil society sectors. They are also an actively engaged with advocacy to advance human rights for LGBTQ people in Nigeria, as a partner in the Solidarity Alliance for Human Rights, and the on African continent. WHER initiative’s Sister2Sister program builds and trains leaders across the country to provide counseling, peer support and coordinate local community networks in their respective cities. This kind of mental health support goes hand in hand with their financial empowerment workshops, consciousness raising community ‘edu-tainment’ activities and human rights trainings.

Humanity First Cameroon is an association that fights against HIV/AIDS, and defends and protects the human rights of vulnerable people including the LGBTQ community.

Humanity First Cameroon is an association that fights against HIV/AIDS, and defends and protects the human rights of vulnerable people including the LGBTQ community. Grant supports the Women’s Gender and Leadership Unit, which organizes lesbian, bisexual, queer women and women who have sex with women (WSW), especially low-income women who haven’t had the opportunity to complete high school or higher education. They organize for increased recognition and mobilization of LBQWSW women in the Cameroonian LGBT and feminist movement. They provide trainings and advocacy actions aimed at women’s associations and human rights organizations to seek recognition of violence based on sexual orientation and gender identity. They have also previously engaged in sensitization programs targeting healthcare workers and are building a strategy to support women in developing their own revenue-generating strategies.

QET Inclusion was formed in 2015 to build a strong and supportive community of non-binary, queer and trans* people.

QET Inclusion was formed in 2015 to build a strong and supportive community of non-binary, queer and trans* people in order to contribute to their welfare and stamp out the various forms of violence, intimidation, stigmatization, and rejection they face because of their gender identity or expression. The first organized trans group to form in West Africa, they provide space for the community to come together and positively assert trans culture and the historical existence of gender diversity. They will also engage in advocacy to increase access to affirming healthcare and start an on-line web magazine for information and visibility of non-binary, queer and trans* people.
