Intersexioni

Intersexioni was founded in 2013 by a group of volunteer activists and scholars interested in the intersectionalities between different issues, with a special focus on intersex human rights.

Intersexioni was founded in 2013 by a group of volunteer activists and scholars interested in the intersectionalities between different issues, with a special focus on intersex human rights. Its mission is to analyze and break up the logic of domination and oppression, and its constituency consists of people discriminated on the grounds of their biological sex, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, gender roles, ethnicity, and social class. Intersexioni was the first group in Italy to analyze intersex issues and to advocate for intersex rights. Intersexioni provides information through its website and social media, translating many resources into Italian, including subtitling documentaries. It conducts education in secondary schools, universities, and for professionals and volunteers; organizes workshops and other public initiatives; lobbies political and social institutions at the local, regional, and national levels; and engages the international human rights system. Through its network, Intersexioni also offers counseling, peer support and referrals. With its allies, the group is drafting institutional guidelines to stop non-consensual and unnecessary genital surgeries.
