XY Spectrum was founded by trans and intersex activists from Serbia and is the first organization working with, for and on intersex issues in Serbia. XY Spectrum wants to include the whole spectrum of identities in terms of gender and sexuality. Challenging multiple forms of discrimination and centering intersectionality is essential to the organization’s work and activities. The core work is to strengthen people’s capacities to overcome fear, isolation and trauma, through support groups (for intersex, parents of intersex and trans, for trans people), psycho-social counseling and new legal, administrative and institutional procedures, policies and practice, etc. XY Spectrum’s mission is the contribution and creation of an overall societal environment directed towards the removal of all forms of violence and discrimination, creation and implementation of medical and administrative procedures, and legislation for gender and sex (body) variant and diverse (intersex, trans, non-binary) persons. Their goal is to stop all medically unnecessary surgical interventions, and to support and contribute to legal frameworks that support intersex, trans and non-binary persons and that are sensitive and inclusive of their rights, experiences and needs.
