Magda Rakita is a Polish intersex activist who lives in the UK. She became involved in intersex activism in the UK after publicly coming out a couple of years ago. She gave numerous talks to the general public, medical students, took part in the production of videos and other materials with aim of raising awareness about intersex people. In 2018, together with her colleagues Anick Soni and Sara Gillingham, she organised the first ever intersex group in London’s Pride. Magda worked with IHRF grantee partner IntersexUK until recently. She’s been focusing on intersex activism in Poland since 2018, and working in collaboration with KPH (Kampania Przeciwko Homofobii/Campaign Against Homophobia). Magda’s mission is to facilitate change to the lives of intersex people in Poland by pursuing work in multiple avenues of raising public awareness, educating medical professionals and future doctors about intersex people’s perspective on appropriate care, create safe space for intersex persons and their families living in Poland through support groups meetings as well as empowering new intersex advocacy voices.
