Happy International Women’s Day! Today is an important day devoted to honoring the myriad efforts of activists fighting for a world that respects the rights of all women everywhere around the world. First observed in the early 20th century, International Women’s Day came from a surge of women’s rights activism in the U.S. and Europe around labor justice, voting rights, and demands for political power. Today International Women’s Day inspires thousands of calls to actions and events around the world from marches and rallies, to celebrations and performances.
