Killings and Violence against Women based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at 4:30pm

Armenian Convention Center
630 2nd Avenue (at 35th street)
New York, NY 10016

Panelists include human rights activists and speakers from Venezuela, Botswana, and Canada.

Around the world, people are targeted for violence and discrimination because of their actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity. Lesbians, transgender and other gender non-conforming people–in both the global North and South–are particularly at risk. This violence, including rape, extrajudicial killings and torture is omnipresent and is often undocumented and underreported. Panelists will discuss research and activist and UN responses.
