Collectif Intersexes et Allié-e-s (CIA)

Collectif Intersexes et Allié-e-s was founded in 2016 and is an intersex-led collective in France.

Collectif Intersexes et Allié-e-s was founded in 2016 and is an intersex-led collective in France. It was set up to act politically and act as the representation (porte-voix) for intersex rights in France. The group is made up of intersex volunteers, most of whom are assigned female at birth; and all belonging to the low-income / working class. The Collectif opposes the pathologization of intersex people and firmly believes in self-determination and bodily autonomy. They work towards the end of mutilation, sterilization and hormone treatments without intersex people’s consent, irrespective of their age. They believe that intersex people should have access to full information, including access to medical records and to non-pathologizing information. This involves creating and running support groups, exchanging and sharing knowledge of struggles and about intersex conditions. Another goal of the Collectif Intersexes is to advocate for the removal of sex and gender markers on legal documents. Whilst open to allies, the group was set up to be led by and for intersex people.
