The Funding Queerly Giving Circle is a group of young donors (under 40) who are mobilizing financial resources in support of organizing work by and for marginalized Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer & Intersex (LGBTQI) communities. Through this circle, we aim to support small LGBTQI community organizing groups across the United States to address the root causes of injustice facing LGBTQI people. We are particularly committed to supporting the leadership and organizing by and for communities of color, indigenous communities, low-income communities, and/or rural communities.

Any amount counts! In 2017 Funding Queerly distributed $237,000 with contributions ranging from $10 to $50,000.

If you are giving above $250, please consider sending a check to Funding Queerly’s fiscal sponsor to avoid processing fees. Make checks out to Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, write Funding Queerly Giving Circle in the memo, and mail to:

Where does the money go?

Every dollar contributed gets distributed to other queer-led organizations. In 2017, $130,000 went to groups by and for Black and undocumented immigrant communities. We had intentionally and explicitly pledged at least 50% of all funds to these groups because we believe that liberation for Black and undocumented immigrant communities is essential to the liberation of all people. 92% of all grant funds went to groups led by queer people of color.

At least 90% goes directly to our grantees, all small queer-led organizing groups led by members of of-color, rural, and poor communities. The rest goes to our fiscal sponsor, Astraea, because we depend on their staff, resources, and network to help us find and fund small, frontlines organizations. Astraea in turn funds LGBTQI human rights organizers working for racial, economic, social, and gender justice. For example, in 2017 we raised $237,000 with $215,000 going to grantees and $22,000 going to Astraea. If you’re wondering about costs of operating the Circle, members pay for our own expenses as they arise and volunteer all of our time.
