Kampania Przeciw Homofobii

Previous: J-Flag | Next: Labris

Kampania Przeciw Homofobii (KPH), Poland’s largest LGBTI group, works to protect the constitutionally guaranteed rights of LGBT people in Poland. KPH works for LGBT rights through its sixteen branches nationwide in defiance of the strong influence of Catholicism in Polish society. It provides legal and psychological assistance, lobbying and education. KPH operates a Lab of Tolerance (its educational center), which provides trainings and educational materials on LGBTI issues, and the organization is frequently invited to make presentations at schools and trade unions. KPH has counted many successes in the past two years, notably their expansion into every region of Poland and the co-authoring of a proposed amendment to the Polish Penal Code combating hate speech.

KPH plays a vital role in the current national and regional climate where homophobic and transphobic attacks and ignorance are mainstream. The organization gives the marginalized and often silenced community a collective voice and rallies its members around common goals. To leverage international attention, the organization submitted a historic shadow report to the European Commission which was then cited in the commission’s conclusions to the Polish government. KPH’s success in activating a growing number of local LGBT groups in villages and smaller cities and its growing presence internationally is an indication of the organization’s strategic role in the region and capacity to deliver.
