Meet a Grantee: Rromnjako Ilo (Belgrade, Serbia)
In Serbia, both lesbians and Roma people face harsh discrimination. An assertive daughter is a disgrace; sexual or gender difference is unthinkable and often punished. For the first time, the project “I am Roma, I am lesbian” engages young Roma women in workshops on personhood, gender, sexuality and survival skills, and provides advocacy and training in Roma women’s rights communities and Serbian public institutions.
