Happy New Year!

Let's begin the New Year with some good news.

In 2008, Astraea celebrated 30 years of Justice in the Making.

We convened 19 leaders from across the U.S. to build a collaborative movement for justice. We built funding alliances in Africa and Latin America and advocated on nearly every continent to increase resources for LGBTI issues.

Together, we've accomplished so much.

With your help, we invested $2.2 million in crucial, on-the-ground work to win hearts and minds and secure human rights around the globe:

  • In Bogotá, Colombia, Colombia Diversa won pension rights for same-sex couples.
  • SRLP-Collective-2008.jpg
    Sylvia Rivera Law Project Collective
The 3rd Annual Queer Women of Color Film Festival was a sold-out success, and San Francisco's mayor proclaimed a Queer Women of Color Film Festival Weekend.
  • The first openly gay parliamentarian in Nepal was elected from the leadership of Blue Diamond Society.
  • Sylvia Rivera Law Project brought home policy changes that protect the safety and dignity of trans youth in the New York foster care and juvenile justice systems.

Being a part of Astraea means being a part of a global force for change.

It's a new year. Let's see how much more we can accomplish.

In Peace,

Astraea Staff and Board

Our logo grows, spirals and emits powerful energy. It has no sharp edges or precise borders. That's because true social change is propelled forward, from person to person, community to community, continent to continent.
