Take for example, groups like Equal Ground Pasifik (Fiji Islands)-- a $2000 emergency grant from Astraea supported the legal and advocacy needs of two defendants charged with sodomy convictions. The convictions were overturned and resulted in the Fiji High Court decision declaring the nation's sodomy law unconstitutional.
With the help of individuals like you we have made a difference. With your continued support we can do even more, even sooner.
Last
year, Astraea awarded more than $1.3 million to support the important
work of 168 organizations and individuals in 24 U.S. states, Puerto
Rico and 41 other countries. This year Astraea plans to give away $1.8
million!
These critical resources enable the work of Aireana, the first and only lesbian organization in Paraguay. An $8000 grant from Astraea made it possible for Aireana to rent their first office and open their doors to the local community. With a physical space in which to gather, women are now coming out of isolation and building a shared political consciousness.
SONG / Southerners on New Ground (Durham,
North Carolina) is using a grant of $150,000 over 3 years to integrate
