Nearly fifteen years before the
Stonewall Rebellion and the birth of gay liberation in
New York came the Daughters of Bilitis (DOB).
Launched in 1955 in response to the oppressive anti-
homesexual climate of the McCarthy era, DOB
challenged the silence and contempt that surrounded
women-loving-women for so many
generations.
Marcia will sign copies of her new book,
purchased at
the Strand the day of the event, following a reading
and discussion with Marcia and Katherine Acey,
Executive Director of Astraea Lesbian Foundation for
Justice.
