Astraea's Visual Arts Committeepromotes awareness of contemporary lesbian artists and their work in the lesbian community by organizing workshops, studio visits and additional educational activities. The committee also commissions renowned lesbian artists to create limited-edition prints which benefit Astraea's work. The first three prints in the series were contributed by Deborah Kass, Joan Snyder and Miriam Hernandez.

The first in the series is from Deborah Kass in celebration of Astraea's 20th Anniversary. Kass, a long-time supporter of Astraea, has been painting and exhibiting for more than 25 years. Her works are in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Jewish Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum among others. The print (an edition of 60) is a 30" x 30" silkscreen ink on paper entitled, Parisian, Gertrude Stein. It is available from Astraea for $1,000 unframed.

The second in the series is from Joan Snyder. Her works are in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art among others. The print (an edition of 60) is a 20" x 24" lithograph-etching on rag wove paper entitled, My Maggie. It is available from Astraea for $1,000 unframed.

The third in the series is from Miriam Hernandez. Her works are in the collections of The Center for Puerto Rican Studies; El Museo del Barrio and numerous private collections. The print (an editon of 50) is a digital print-11" x 17" paper with acrylic on synthetic cloth/wool thread entitled, Crouching Buddha: Soften. This work is part of a series that includes Buddha Poses, Buddha/Monkey Fairy Sequel, and Crouching Buddha. It is available from Astraea for $500 unframed.
