2012 International Fund Grants Awarded
Astraea grantee partners advance LGBTQI human rights in a number of key areas, including Transgender Human Rights Protections, Economic Rights, Safety/Anti Criminalization, and Family Protections. These groups use a variety of social change strategies, from policy advocacy to grassroots organizing and arts and cultural activism. We are pleased to bring on three new grantee partners and renew support to many long-standing partners.

Our grantee partners engage innovative work to advance economic justice for LGBTQI communities. Some strategies include securing employment protections, creating opportunities for livelihood, empowering rural and urban working class/poor, lesbian/bisexual/transgender communities, and addressing broader economic inequities affecting LGBTQ communities.

Connecting across borders, skills, and issues is a key part of strengthening local movements to build global movements. Community Safety, Freedom from Violence/Criminalization
Our grantee partners lead a diverse range of campaigns to increase safety for LGBTQ communities and end many forms of violence. Some groups tackle hate violence and domestic and family violence. Others address institutional violence that endangers LGBTQI dignity and well-being. Many groups fight policies that criminalize aspects of LGBTQI people’s self-expression and livelihoods: consensual sex between same-sex adults, cross-dressing, and sex work.
