ASTRAEA’S INTERNATIONAL GRANTS PROGRAM Astraea's International Fund for Sexual Minorities was established in 1996, the first institutional fund in the U.S. devoted to supporting LBGTI organizations worldwide. Since its inception, the Fund has invested in innovative LGBTI-led human rights and social change organizations and projects in over 70 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, Eastern Europe/Commonwealth of Independent States and the Middle East.

Meet a Grantee: Sappho for Equality (Kolkata, India)
With a focus on services, advocacy and education, Sappho has educated and organized over 2,000 people through the Chetana Sexuality Center, the only lesbian-led sexual rights resource and organizing center in West Bengal. Sappho also collaborated with fellow Astraea grantee-partner Pratyay Gender Trust to hold the first-ever LGBTIQ film and video festival and has provided crucial support to a nascent underground LBT group in the region.
