Current grantee partners who received a grant last year will be notified by February 2010 of their eligibility to apply for this year’s US Panel Fund and sent a renewal application form. New applications are not accepted. However, organizations that are not current grantee partners may submit compelling movement building projects to the Movement Resource Fund and emergency funding projects to the Emergency Fund (see below for more details).
Movement Resource Fund for US and International Regions
Inquiries Accepted Year-Round
Astraea’s Movement Resource Fund provides grants to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of our grantee partners and ally organizations to engage in movement building work. Grants are generally provided in three areas: Technical Assistance, Travel/Peer-to-Peer Learning and Historic Convenings. Although any organization that fits our funding criteria may apply, we prioritize current Astraea grantee partners. One page inquiries can be sent to Namita Chad, Emergency/Movement Resource Fund Program Officer, at nchad@astraeafoundation.org.
Emergency Fund for US and International Regions
Inquiries Accepted Year-Round
Astraea provides rapid response emergency grants to organizations faced with an unforeseeable organizing opportunity or immediate political emergency. One page inquiries can be sent to Namita Chad, Emergency/Movement Resource Fund Program Officer, at

A Note on the Status of the Lesbian Writers Fund — May 2010
Thank you for your interest in the Lesbian Writers Fund, which provides grants to emerging lesbian poets and fiction writers across the U.S. Please note that the grant application deadline for this year has been moved to March 2011. We are pushing back the timeline for this application cycle for several reasons – in order to evaluate the fund to align it more closely with Astraea’s mission and overall grantmaking programs, to implement a technological upgrade to the fund that would enable an online application process, and to leverage additional resources to enable the fund to thrive. We are deeply committed to the Lesbian Writers Fund as an opportunity for LGBTI women to receive funding for their amazing work, and we will keep you informed of the new application once it is available.
Email grants@astraeafoundation.org with any questions regarding this fund.
