OPEN POSITION: Title: DIRECTOR OF COMMUNCATIONS (Full-time position)

ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION:
The Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice is the world's only foundation solely dedicated to supporting LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex) organizations in the United States and internationally. This past year, Astraea issued more than $1.9 million in grants to 181 organizations in 99 cities and 39 countries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create, implement and measure the success of a comprehensive communications and public relations program to enhance the Foundation's visibility, grantees and donors partnerships and fundraising capacity
  
• Oversee all print and online collateral, editorial writing, media outreach and message development

Print and Electronic Collateral

• Responsible for editorial direction, design, production and distribution of all organization publications
  
• Coordinate and oversee overhaul of new state of the art website
  
• Oversee creation and implementation of new electronic and new media technologies
  

Media Relations and Messaging

• Cultivate new relationships with journalists in both the mainstream and independent print and electronic presses
  
• Serve as the primary media contact for the Foundation
  

Management

• Coordinate training, supervision, and leadership development of Communication team staff
  
• Oversight of vendors and consultants relations.
  
• Manage Communications team budget development, modifications and monitoring
  
• Participate actively in management team and represent communications team perspectives within the organization
  

Special Requirements

• Must be able to travel (some international) on a moderate basis
  

QUALIFICATIONS
Results-driven, deadline-conscious individual who can manage simultaneous demands across multiple constituencies

• Exceptional and persuasive written and verbal communications skills--and a passion for both.
  
• Minimum of 10 years of experience developing, crafting and implementing broad-spectrum marketing communications plans
  
• Knowledge of issues and trends facing Lesbian, Trans and LGBTI individuals
  
• Sound judgment and meticulous attention to detail.
  

Reports to: Deputy Director
